Musings on truth

I have been thinking, and writing in my head…as I often do. I have also had a very challenging gig to sink my teeth into. Bottom line? I have not written anything here—just in my head and in my journal. Of course,  if I want PEOPLE TO READ WHAT I write, I  need to write about sex, abuse or something “sexy”—and write pretty much every day.

But I have a part time job, and I am starting many new projects. And I am enjoying the rather sudden end of  three years of mega stress. So if anyone IS reading this? Thank you!

As it happens, I could write about abuse. (I don't choose to, as I don’t see myself as “an abused person”—full stop.)  One reason  I am so good at figuring things out (a case in point, the Martin/Zimmerman fiasco) is because I spent my childhood being deliberately confused by my family… as a result I because an obsessive checker of facts  and connector up of dots.

It’s a great trait to have—except that most people don’t have it. Maybe it was enough (in our distant history as a race) to know what was a poisonous snake and what was good to eat, so checking, every day, to see what was true was just not necessary. In any case, most people don’t.  (Some of us do—we have been called “HSP” and are actually different. Probably having a few of us around was good for the tribe, so we did survive.)

Oh, you haven't heard of “HSP”? Well, don’t feel all alone. Neither had I, until 2009. It‘s not very sexy so not many people know. Some of us are super gifted… all of us are different. It has been said all gifted (high IQ) children are HSPs. But not all HPSs are super “gifted” (high IQ.) (See Brandenn Bremmer) I am high IQ  but not Brandenn Bremmer high, and I  AM an HSP.

Many of us had difficult childhoods. In fact, it’s safe to say, most. It’s hard being different.

Speaking of which… part of what makes is different-even if you are not me, obscom fact checker extraordinaire--.is we don’t seem to just believe we already know stuff, we want to know. We keep asking question as all throughout our lives. (See Aron’s work on the “HSPperson.)

We can hold contradictory possibilities in our minds while we check each one out.

Which brings me to…  the spin and speculation about the still simmering “Martin/Zimmerman fiasco.” And the fact that a significant number of people are still obsessing over who to blame (not just—as I am—solving the mystery of “why doesn’t any of this add up?) This is not nit in headlines--it's in hidden paces. The internet.

Somehow I stumbled on a site where someone did a good analysis of that night, with a diagram. Naturally, it was a self described “Conservative.” (Almost no one self describes as “Liberal”—the label applies, by this group’s definition, to everyone  else.) And they are the ones who are determined to prove Zimmerman was a Knight in Shining Armor (KISA) and anyone who has besmirched his armor is The Enemy. So they have done a LOT of work to besmirch Martin. Some of it is good work. God KNOWS the "lamestream" media are not going to do it. So I read what these good folks came up with.

One thing about the non HSP mind is someone has to be wrong.  Not some ACT—some person. (Oddly HSPs can see TWO sides of the same thing.) So I don't care who did the work-- I want SOMETHING to add up. Here, much did.

So anyway, the site posits that Zimmerman may have gone back to his truck and been approached by Martin and then gotten out of his truck again to keep an eye on him, after which an altercation ensued. So far so good—the work done is excellent and tracks with the KNOWN evidence.

For those who want one or the other of these men to be lily white (metaphorically), the news is not good. These dedicated folks have dug up some dirt on the late Martin. He was into robotripping and what he bought at the store was consistent with making a nasty  drink called “lean.” He was between store and home  long enough to have possibly made some of it and drunk it. (But if he did why did he still have the ingredients on him? We will never know.)

It’s clear this teen was a wannabe rapper tough guy. (This may have gotten him killed.) The sad part is there are many comments in the thread on this site that make it clear that a sadly large number of people REALLY think this made everything else excusable.

It seems Martin had—at some point—unexplained possibly “stolen goods” in his back pack at school, and a “screwdriver” described as a "burglary tool.” (There are no reported burglaries mind you… and the guy could have had the jewelry because he had taken it in lieu of cash for his drug deals..)  But BINGO—he had a screwdriver at some time in the past--therefore that night he was bent on burglary. (So goes the narrative created by the Wagist folks and determined KISA boosters.)

In such a mind set, a guy with a gun who is (also clearly) a wannabe cop--and any cop will tell you this is NOT a Good Thing—went out armed to stop what he (and now his dedicated followers) were convinced was a crime in the making. (In his mind.)  He, George (aka Jorge) Zimmerman is a KISA .A brave knight, defending innocents, victims, on his home territory, with honor and glory. No WONDER these boosters are exercised!

Never mind that NONE of the alleged "prior bad acts" by Martin was known to Zimmerman Aka the KISA. Never mind he is not law enforcement and it was not his job to stop a crime (even if Martin—allegedly high—was in fact now planning  to commit burglary. And never mind that most burglars don't talk on their phone while in mid crime.) Never mind the facts…we got a Good Buy and a Bad Guy... so the death was JUSTIFIED. I swear that is the argument.

Martin is now bad and Zimmerman is therefore GOOD. (And blameless, legally and morally.)

Sigh.

Here’s what I see. I see two men—one very young, one slightly less so—who have (had?) emotional baggage. Each one wants  to be tougher and stronger then his place in society will ever allow. One has a gun, and lives in a state where a gun lobby made it pretty safe to use it.

And one is dead and the other is a man who will never be the same.

I see a wrong act—excessive force. (And yes, I see racism, but leaving that aside for now…) Lethal force is  NOT called for because a guy is hitting you. (One of  the folks on this thread, determined to show Zimmerman was indeed FORCED to shoot Martin--who, I agree, was on top of him-- said “you can kill a man with a blow to the nose."  I replied—“yes, Zimmerman could have done that.” There was no response. Dead silence.)

I have been in fights, even though I am a girl.  I am ashamed of the one  I got into as a kid. The other was someone clever attempted to show me I was defenseless.  (I wasn’t.) In neither case did anyone die. Of course in neither case did anyone have a gun.

Zimmerman had choices, he made choices, and he also had a gun.  He chose to use it. Greek tragedy, anyone?

  1. Zimmerman was a gunfight looking for a place to happen - period. if it wasn't trayvon martin - it'da been someone else. he almost NEEDED to use that weapon! It's hard to be a teenager these days - black OR white - who doesn't at some time - have the minute THC levels in their system that martin did! The amounts were almost negligible in their minuteness, and HELLO? marijuana only makes one more passive - NOT aggressive - even if he were walking down that street smoking a joint! Hmmm..but then-walking down the street smoking a joint would have been another glorious reason to stalk and kill - to a man like 'georgie the vigilant'(e) - the desperate to be important head of neighborhood security! (omg..i'd have to giggle if it weren't so sick). This guy's gonna get off - i have no doubt now - as the other party happens to be dead and the law and justice seem to have less and less to do with each other - as greedy politicians change laws to suit their ends, the power and status happy are able to ingratiate themselves with the authorities - and apathetic and stressed citizens turn a blind eye while they fight (or steal) to eat another day..
All i can say is: We'ze in deep doo doo!..lol
C - great write, but - with all due respect - ya gotta use spell check, girlfriend!
    For the OCD amongst us...lol

  2. 1. I have not see a to report that says no Dex in his system. 2. That--cannabis or other intoxication-- was not my point.
    3. I just reread that post and I don't see where I failed to spell check a bloody thing.

And yes George/Jorge will get off --in part because there is so much doubt- in part but the charge was not appropriate.

But that was not really may point either. THIS is my point: "Here’s what I see. I see two men—one very young, one slightly less so—who have (had?) emotional baggage. Each one wants to be tougher and stronger then his place in society will ever allow. One has a gun, and lives in a state where a gun lobby made it pretty safe to use it. "
